Jeanne Assam has 15 years of experience in law enforcement. Her background includes five years of work as a patrol officer with the Minneapolis Police Department and several more years of armed security work in some of Minneapolis’s toughest neighborhoods. Jeanne has also worked as a Criminal Investigator for the State of Colorado and as a Parole Officer for the Colorado Department of Corrections.
Her fame spread in December of 2007 across hundreds of television stations, Web sites, and newspapers after single-handedly taking down the gunman at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, saving thousands of lives in the process. In January of 2008, she met with former President George W. Bush at the president’s request. The Colorado Senate and House passed a joint resolution honoring her. She is one of “The Biggest Winners” for 2007 according to Fox News’ The Big Story with Gibson and Nauret; only General Patraeus and French President Nicholas Sarkozy finished ahead of her. The Colorado Law Enforcement Officers Association nominated her for Citizen of the Year. She is the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from the Second Amendment Foundation, and was also the recipient of the Colorado Springs Police Medal of Distinction for 2008.
